Lee Douglas Martin
1957-2024
Lee Douglas Martin was born on February 9 th , 1957 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Pasadena,CA.
Lee was the fourth born child of Richard and Janet Martin (Crouse). Lee graduated
early from Orange High School in 1975. Soon after graduation he began working for
Ames Construction in heavy civil construction as an equipment operator. Lee traveled
far and wide for his work with Ames. He met and married Mary Gange in North Dakota
and they welcomed their eldest daughter, Marilee, in Bismarck, North Dakota. in 1980.
Their second and third daughters, Elizabeth and Amanda were soon added to the
family. The
family continued to travel for Lee’s work and Lee eventually earned a promotion to
Superintendent for Ames Construction.
During his career, Lee supervised many high-risk heavy civil construction
projects including Kennecott Copper Mine outside Salt Lake City, Utah, a gold mine in
Uzbekistan, and levee work with the Army Corps of Engineers for Hurricane Katrina
Relief at
Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Mary and Lee separated and Lee subsequently
moved back to Southern California.
Lee was an intelligent person, witty, and a devout Catholic. Lee had a love for enjoyed
geology, reading, writing, fishing, exploring nature, sunrises and sunsets, fellowship,
and
community service. As a young man, he also became fascinated with aviation and
technology. He was one of the first to own a first edition Tandy personal computer, and
he also owned and piloted a Cessna 182. While Lee’s work and passions, took him
around the US and overseas, life took him to many states, and even countries, one
constant was with him always, his Catholic faith. He spent the latter part of his life in
missionary service to the Lord and in fellowship with St. Timothy Catholic Church. Lee
was welcomed home by Our Lord and Savior when he died on October 10, 2024 in
Mission Viejo, California.
Lee Martin is survived by his daughters and their families, Marilee (Justin) Martin Jager
(Helen
and Brice); Elizabeth (Luke) Rodgers (Evelynn, Abigail, and Martin); Amanda (Kellen)
Olson
(Mia); siblings, Liz (Scott) Davis (Sean); Rick (Debrah) Martin (Rachael and Andrew),
and
Cyndie Martin Borcoman (Brandon). He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard
and Janet Martin, and his younger brother, David Martin.
On Thursday, October 17 th there will be a rosary service at 11:30am, followed by funeral
service at 12:00pm at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 29102 Crown Valley Parkway,
Laguna Niguel, CA 92677. Family burial ceremony to follow at 1:30pm. If inclined,
consider a donation to St. Timothy Catholic Church, in honor of Lee Douglas Martin.
